More is More
You might have heard the myth that more wax is better in car detailing. We can however tell you that the opposite is actually the truth!
We don’t know if this myth has come from a Karate Kid enthusiast who just loves putting the wax on or somebody who sells wax but the truth is, working in thin layers is always better for your car!
When using excessive amounts of wax you can get an uneven, patchy look which is impossible to buff out. Stick to thin layers and you’ll be golden!
Any Cloth Will Do
If you’re a regular internet user who has had the misfortune of stumbling upon “life hacks for car detailers” then you’ll probably have seen TikToks of people using anything from old t-shirts to their wife’s knickers to polish their cars.
All we can say is please don’t do this! In car detailing we use special polishing cloths for a reason! Any other material is highly likely to scratch your vehicle or just do a lousy job of polishing it.
Machine Washes Are Just As Good
Whilst machine car washes can be great for occupying toddlers, they are often not the best choice for a truly sparkling car! In fact, many car owners choose mobile car detailing professionals like us after having a bad experience with a mechanical car wash.
Machines are great at many things but the delicate and often intricate nature of car detailing isn’t one of them. Luckily for us, mobile car detailing in Australia is probably not a job that AI will be taking any time soon!
Leather Interiors Are Low-maintenance
Now for this one, we totally get the idea. Leather does look like a low-maintenance option that is even sometimes advertised as “wipe clean” which in some ways is true. However, just because leather won’t get as visibly saturated as the fabric does not mean it is low maintenance!
Leather requires specialist care to maintain its finish which is why mobile car detailers will come equipped with balms and tools to condition the leather keeping it looking amazing for longer.
Air Drying is Best for Exteriors
Have you ever been driving in that low morning sun just for a huge smudge to be right in your eyeline? We totally understand why some people believe air drying is the only way to prevent those smudges but all you get to replace them is watermarks!
A thorough drying is the best way to have an immaculate vehicle and get rid of any marks on your windows or glass! Grab a microfibre cloth to rid your exterior of watermarks or even splash out on a specialist glass cloth to rid your windscreen of streaks once and for all!
Washing Up Liquid is Great for Cars
Please don’t do this! If you take anything away from this blog then please put the dish soap back in the kitchen and purchase a specialist car shampoo!
We’ve seen so many cars receive pretty hefty paint damage thanks to dish soap which is understandable. The sort of grime that washing-up liquid was designed to remove is not the same as what car shampoo was made for. When using washing up liquid you can strip your car of all its protective coatings and even the paintwork!
Tyre Dressings are just Cosmetic
